Formed in 1987 through the merger of SGS Microelettronica of Italy and Thomson Semiconducteurs of France, the company specializes in developing and manufacturing a wide range of semiconductor solutions. The SGS-Thomson group was formed in June 1987 as a result of the combination of Thomson Semiconducteurs of France, and SGS Microelettronica of Italy. In May 1998 , the company changed its name from SGS-Thomson to STMicroelectronics. Since its formation, they have significantly broadened and upgraded their range of products and technologies worldwide.
